Cap, Herringbone Twill
The Herringbone Twill (HBT) Cap is part of the HBT ensemble. Another style of hat issued was a full-brimmed hat, nicknamed the "Daisy Mae," was made of the same HBT material and is suitable for wear with the HBT Uniform. The cap was worn for work duty and could be worn underneath a helmet. However, it was not as popular in the European Theater as the Jeep Cap was for the simple fact that the Jeep Cap was warmer.
When looking for a correct HBT Cap, look for the number of stitch lines in the short bill: there should be six. The color should be an olive drab color, more green than the wool olive drab. It should also not bear any Marine insignia.
